Sharp increase in demand for Qatar residential properties

The demand for residential properties and office space in Qatar rose 17 percent compared to 12 months ago.

The double-digit growth followed a relatively slow season due to summer and Eid holidays, revealed real estate company DTZ Qatar, reported The Peninsula Qatar.

Most enquiries were focused on furnished two-bedroom apartments in the range of $2,500 (QR9,000) and $3,430 (QR12,500) followed closely by one-bedroom apartments.

As for villas, most enquiries concentrated on unfurnished four-bedroom properties within a compound.

Office space enquiries on the other hand came predominantly from the private sector and focused on 250sqm to 500sqm sizes.

A large portion of the residential demand came from first-time Qatar expats, according to the general manager of DTZ Edd Brookes.

Brookes said while the prime residential market had shown signs of slowing down in June, it was mainly due to seasonal fluctuations and corporate restructuring exercises.
