'The Tower' at Dubai Creek Harbour to emit a 'beacon of light'

Dubai’s new 928m tallest tower will emit a ‘beacon of light’ from its peak at night, the engineering company working on the project has revealed.

Once completed, Emaar Properties’ Dubai Creek Harbour tower project, known simply as ‘The Tower’, will be 100 metres taller than the Burj Khalifa.

At the top will be an oval-shaped bud, housing ten observation decks, including The Pinnacle Room, which will offer 360-degree views of the city, according to a statement from engineering firm Aurecon, which will work with architect Santiago Calatrava on the project.

The tower’s summit will emit a beacon of light at night, evoking the features of a flower bud that appears to hover above the structure, said the statement.

“The Tower will test the craftsmanship of Aurecon as we play our part in making a mark on the built fabric of mankind,” said Adrian Jones, Aurecon’s project director for The Tower.

“It is an absolute privilege to be entrusted by Santiago Calatrava and Emaar Properties to work on this project, and we have assembled a stellar team to bring this idea to life.”

The design includes a distinctive net of steel cable stays that attach to a central reinforced concrete column that will reach into the skies.

The tower will be part of the Dubai Creek Harbour, a 6 sq km development twice the size of Emaar’s Downtown Dubai.

It is expected to be completed in time for Dubai Expo 2020, the same year that Jeddah’s Kingdom Tower – another contender for the world's tallest building title – is due for completion.
